The location was lovely and peaceful with a great seaview from the room and bar terrace. The staff were very obliging , polite and apologetic for "everything" that went wrong. The room was tastefully decorated but still in need of a lick of paint and new furniture. Duvets were a plus point, as opposed to blankets, and the beds were more comfortable than in the previous occupant's opinion. (Their survey sheet was left in the room for us to read, due to lack of staff competence!) With a bit of attention to detail the hotel could tick all the boxes but the owner seems to be resting on their laurels, maybe becauses of finances or the lack of competion in the area!
The hotel didn't check their reservations so our double seaview had been taken. We had to take a basic twin with a window that wouldn't stay open, which meant the room became too hot during the day. The toilet didn't flush very well and the towels were old. The food tasted fine, although cold, and the selection was very limited. The chef prepares fancy food and not popular menus. We were still hungry after dinner and breakfast, and we are not big eaters! If you don't eat full english there isn't much else apart from cereal. The fruit juice remained empty until I managed to track down a member of staff and then there weren't any glasses. We had to wait 20 mins for a table at breakfast. disorganized and unprofessional in two words!
The view of the sea from the bedroom
Staff uninterested by their hotel customers. 45 minutes wait to get our breakfast. we were told the chef was slow that day! Stained carpets in the bedroom. the shower attachement fall in the bath. it was never properly fixed I guess. in the restaurant the seat of my chair felt on the floor when I got up. ever heard of faulty towers? When we remarked on these problems the manager did not ever both to anwers, let alone apologising
The hotel needs a serious makeover and cleaners to keep it clean. A new chef is also needed I don't know when the carpets were last cleaned. We were in room 8 and it was very clean. Our booking showed a double with balcony and room 8 didn't have this. We were given a bottle of wine to compensate this which was way off in comparison.
Room was adequate and the food good
Reception being the bar as well
Staff were polite
Being asked to pay for the room before even seeing it and also before even staying there. Room 'poor' and could have been cleaner. Shower curtain did not cover the whole of the bathroom window therefore making it impossible for you to take a shower without being seen by the houses on the hill overlooking the hotel! (The bathroom glass was clear). The curtains for the room were more like voiles and therefore were incapable of actually blocking anything and you daren't have your light on for the houses overlooking the window could see directly in - no privacy!!! One of the lightbulbs was out but staff did nothing about it when it was mentioned to them at reception- staff polite but disinterested in making you feel comfortable.
Staff were very friendly and facilities were good. Breakfast was nice. The location is excellent.
You need better beds. There were a number of us staying and we all commented on the lumpy beds. The hotel is mid range in terms of price, so I would expect the bed to be of a good standard. Pretty basic in somewhere to stay in to sleep.
We wanted to look out to the sea and the sandgate offered that
The traffic was constant day and night and would benifit from double glazing
The position was excellent for us as we were overnighting on the way to the Tunnel. The rooms were clean and freshly decorated and the first room was large and very well dressed, the second time we stayed the room was smaller but perfectly adequate.
Parking was really an issue as it advertised on site parking with reservations, we reserved but the car park is very small (3 spaces?) and a large car is almost impossible to park. There is however plenty of on road parking dirctly outside.
I stayed at the hotel the night before a long drive through France with my 2 dogs. I wasn't expecting too much for the price but was very pleasantly surprised! Staff very polite & friendly. Quiet room.
Wished I could have had a takeaway breakfast though as had to leave really early!
We chose this hotel for the position, overlooking the sea and plentiful free parking.
Room on the small side although very clean, and small double bed with a very firm mattress. Very low and difficult to get out of for pensioners! No dressing table or mirror, hair styling and applying make-up had to be done by standing in front of an eye level wall mirror. Breakfast poor, both our sausages and bacon were too hard to eat, obviously had been cooked much earlier and reheated.
From the lack of a reception desk, to a dirty room, to taking 2 hours to serve a simple 2 course meal, to being raided by police and myself and my partner leaving in disgust, choose any one of the above
We used this hotel as a stopover to get to France using the Euro Tunnel but it was a shame we didn't stay longer. Friendly staff, flexibility (able to check out early and get Takeaway breakfast), clean, well decorated room, great view of the sea (not from our room though).
Wifi connection was a bit unreliable.
Lovely bed, duvet and pillows
Poor bathroom - loose floor tiles - poor shower; small breakfast tables.
